Ever wondered if you right brained or left brained? If you want to know, just take the test below.

Just look at the spinning girl, if she is spinning clockwise, you are more partial to right brain functioning. Whereas if she is spinning counterclockwise, your a left brain operator.

Left and Right Brain

Left  Brain Characteristics

Left brained people are characterized by sequential, logical and analytical. They can easily see the path from a to b.  Left brainers also communicate directly, via speech or writing and respond very well to verbal directions. They also can focus very easily and pay attention to details.

As learners, left brains tend to understand through lectures, discussion and rationalization. Typcial left brain professions are accountants, lawyers and careers in the area of science.

Right Brain Characteristics

Right brained people are very creative and intuitive. They spend alot of time imagining and dreaming, which helps them create many ideas. Right brainers tend to follow their intuition and be very spontaneous.

People strong in right brain activity tend to shine in careers as artists, entrepreneurs, craftsmen and sales. Right brained people tend to understand new information by stories, diagrams, allegories and metaphors. When communicating, right brained people tend to communicate indirectly by gestures, voice tone. As in its not what they say, but HOW they say it.

Switch Hitters

While there is a good chance you already knew which way you tend to lean, creative or analytical. But here’s the real question – can you change the way you see the girl spin? On command?

In baseball, some of the most valuable players are “Switch Hitters”, as in they can hit the ball with their right hand or left hand, depending on the pitcher or where they need to hit the ball.

If you are one of the lucky few who knows how to control which hemisphere of the brain to use for specific tasks, consider yourself a switch hitter. People with this skill know that when they need to focus and rationalize, they need to operate from their left brain space, then can switch into a creative state of mind when needed.

The truth is, we all tend to lean towards one dominate side, but we CAN train ourselves to be switch hitters. For more on how to develop creativity check out this Finer Minds blog post.

So I’m just wondering about our Silva community:

Are you left dominated or right? Did the results of the test above surprise you?
Can you ‘switch hit’?

Let me know in the comments below.

That was so cool, at first I was only able to see her spinning clockwise. Then after a little effort (& training my mind) to see it spin the other way. Nice reminder what the mind is capible of.

  2. petmoland September 27, 2010 at 5:12 pm #

I see her spinning clockwise. And I should then be right brainer. But when I take a test with questions to see if I am left or right brainer. It says that I am left brainer. So I not sure, what to think now !

  3. Josie September 27, 2010 at 8:31 pm #

Yeah I can switch! It takes a while to get the knack. At first I was convinced it could only be clockwise but after reading the posts I concentrated and found the way!

I saw herspinning to the left

  5. Sally September 27, 2010 at 9:06 pm #

When listening to the instructions – "Do you see her clockwise" – that's how I saw her. Then hearing "or do you see her counter-clockwise" – I saw her counter-clockwise. Then I tried to see her clockwise but couldn't. I looked away and back at her and saw her clockwise. I know my dominant side is the left brain, but because I have taken Silva, I am able to adapt.

  6. gail September 27, 2010 at 9:48 pm #

I cannot for the life of me see how it could possibly be a counter clockwise spin. IT seems so clear to me. I wish I could see it the other way, I don't get it, even by just looking at her feet.

  7. Mary September 27, 2010 at 10:10 pm #

I can switch almost at will, not quite – have to try a little before it happens. I'm also ambidextrous, although my left hand writing's not as good. I was born a lefty but got hit a lot before the right hand became a "natural"- leftys were considered bad luck in my parents cultures (Italians and Brazilians) so, it was a no-no.

  8. Mikn8mos September 27, 2010 at 10:56 pm #

I can switch both ways at will BUT sometimes I see her spin HALF a circle ONLY (like a broken record), left-right, right-left vice-versa without completing the full circle. When I concentrate further, she turns a full 360 degrees. I am REALLY REALLY interested to know what the "half-turn" means. ( As an avid follower of Silva teachings and have bought several programs and courses, I find this quite fascinating and an eye, rather 'brain' opener. I must say that I have seen the dancer in a smaller version many times before and never took much notice but never like this) Awaiting a very much anticipated response. Cheers to all.

  9. Bre September 27, 2010 at 11:29 pm #

I could switch her every time I looked up…..and then refocused.. I already new I was a switch hitter that's why I am so misunderstood…..

  10. Eddie September 27, 2010 at 11:38 pm #

Well I was surprised to initially come up creative and solidly so. However, by shifting the screen to focus initially only on feet and concentrating I can make the shift to make her spin both ways and then move up to the whole picture. After a little practice (few minutes) I can make the picture shift at will. I guess also because in my job I actually need both spheres to work to analyze data and literature but then to also write creatively requires both skill sets.

  11. Emil September 27, 2010 at 11:45 pm #

Nice exercize. I'm a switcher. It takes a moment to be able to switch but it's going both ways. Cheers!

  12. Vee September 27, 2010 at 11:46 pm #

She spins clockwise for a certain amount of time then switches to counterclockwise for shorter period of time, then back to clockwise.

  13. Steve September 27, 2010 at 11:47 pm #

I am seeing her spin one way and then reverse direction and spin the other.
So my question is has the animation been programmed to spin one way for a shore time and then reverse?

  14. Kat September 28, 2010 at 12:29 am #

I see both first clockwise and the longer i look it begins to turn the other way then back again. It doesn't matter what angle i look from. It turns one and then the other. What does that mean?

  15. Susan September 28, 2010 at 12:36 am #

Way cool! After thinking I was more "left brain" my first observation was one of a "right brain" person. Then it happened – I could control her spin both ways! LOVE IT!

  16. sanju September 28, 2010 at 12:42 am #

I can see both side,It is how look ,it appears like taht .Good Exercise

  17. Michelle September 28, 2010 at 1:11 am #

I saw her first turning clockwise, closed my eyes for a second and saw her turning counterclockwise and then found out how to control the direction I wanted her to turn. It;s cool.

  18. Joe September 28, 2010 at 1:23 am #

Excellent! I saw her moving counterclockwise. I guess I use the left portion of my brain more. I would like to be able to switch this on and off. Is there a way?

  19. Carol September 28, 2010 at 2:06 am #

yes she is spinning both directions.

  20. gloria September 28, 2010 at 2:17 am #

She really changes from clock wise to counter clock wise every so often …. so of course I see both!!! is this serious!!

  21. Kaye September 28, 2010 at 2:22 am #

I watched this for a long time and I never saw a switch. She is only turning clockwise in my opinion. I guess that makes me a right brainer.

  22. Elizabeth September 28, 2010 at 2:24 am #

I saw her spinning clockwise and counter cloclwise. Thank you and happy to be able to switch to any direction. Great!.

  23. Choy Siong September 28, 2010 at 2:27 am #

Yes I could switch and I think doing that taxed the brain a little bit more. Will use this exercise to energize the brain. Cool.

  24. Choy Siong September 28, 2010 at 2:34 am #

Got it! Use the pivoting leg to help you switch. Now does that make me a right or a left?

  25. Art September 28, 2010 at 2:37 am #

I saw her spinning both clockwise and counter-clockwise. When I look at the upper portion of the body she's spinning clockwise but when I focus on her feet she is spinning counter-clockwise. What could be the meaning of this?

  26. slw September 28, 2010 at 2:53 am #

It is interesting to bounce her back and forth. Try blinking intentionally with the intent of switching her direction.

    - from a left-handed, right-brainer

  27. Kaydon September 28, 2010 at 3:05 am #

I see her counterclockwise. Strangely enought though, I have all the qualities of a right-brain dominant person when it comes to the real world though.

  28. Sylvie September 28, 2010 at 3:13 am #

I don't know what happened but when I first looked at the girl she was going counterclockwise. I went up to read what it meant, stopped at the word clockwise, went back to look at the girl again and she was turning clockwise and she's still doing it as I write those lines. I can't make it turn the other way like the first time I looked at her… Interesting.

  29. Lila September 28, 2010 at 3:13 am #

I didn't move the mouse at all yet the dancing girl changed direction. I can't do this all the time but it happens often enough to make me wonder…

  30. MS7 September 28, 2010 at 3:17 am #

This is not an exercise about perspective. You should be able to see her turning in either clockwise/counterclockwise; literally! With some practice, you may be able to make her spin the direction you desire.

  31. Delores Smith September 28, 2010 at 3:17 am #

I saw her spin clockwise at first, then counterclockwise. Ater concentrating, I made her spin either direction on command. It was cool!!! Am I a switch-hitter?

  32. Phyllis September 28, 2010 at 3:21 am #

I watched her. In the beginning she was turning counter clock wise and then she started turing counter clock wise. If I can see the difference then what does that mean?
    Phyllis

  33. Suzi September 28, 2010 at 3:49 am #

Yeah – I found this on the TKR site a while ago. At first she seemed to change from right to left (or clockwise to anticlockwise) all by her self, but then I practiced getting her to change when i wanted her to. When that happens I can feel it inside my head depending on which way she's going. Really clever idea this!

  34. Camille September 28, 2010 at 3:53 am #

Hmmm…interesting. First saw her spin counterclockwise, then in a few moments, clockwise. The direction just seemed to change every 10-20 seconds. I too, like another, wondered if it was programed to switch. Also found that with attention and intention I could control the direction. So what's that all about….sometimes the figure seemed to switch automatically and sometimes I could 'will' it to change directions. ??

  35. Patricia September 28, 2010 at 3:55 am #

I first saw only her spinning clockwise, but I know I infuse all descriptions of manner in my daily interactions. And as I thought I wonder If I can see her counterclockwise?. She started to spin in that direction. After a few more thought and changes of directio I am convinced. I am a Switch Hitter

  36. Rhonda Pierson Davies September 28, 2010 at 3:56 am #

She keeps on and on ,turning clockwise for me , but I keep seeing her “try” to switch the way she is turning. Every few seconds ,she flashes , ( not while wearing a raincoat, fortunately) then for me , she keeps maintaining the clockwise turn .

even while flashing on and on.

    Arelle

  37. Donna Everett September 28, 2010 at 4:21 am #

I looked more than once and at all times she is fully turning counterclockwise. I now work in law enforcement, I hope my view and my perspective is where I need it.

  38. Kathleen September 28, 2010 at 4:22 am #

I am usually pretty left brained, at least in my image of myself. If I look directly at her, I see her moving counterclockwise only. If I look away and focus my attention to the side or above or below, she sometimes spins clockwise, but more often spins in a half circle, back and forth from side to side but not around.

  39. The Lion September 28, 2010 at 4:26 am #

Definitely both ways on command… just look at the booty…. hehe

  40. Jeri September 28, 2010 at 4:26 am #

For those having difficulty viewing her spin in each direction. Try covering or closing one eye and blinking several times with the viewing eye. Hold for several minutes to see her spin the opposite direction. Then alternate. That's how I was able to see her spin in each direction.
Right eye/left side of brain. Left eye/right side of brain.
    This worked for me.

  41. ASM September 28, 2010 at 4:30 am #

I could see her spinning both directions, but it took me a moment or two to be able to see her spinning clockwise. Sure – I'm what Ken Robinson would call an academic – a person who lives mostly in his head, and slightly to one side – the left! Good to know I can plug in the other half – but yeah – the poet inside me, as well as the singer, the actor, and the emotional man who can cry at the drop of a ___, they all knew the right hemisphere was / is accessible! To control the switches – THAT would be good!

  42. Andrew September 28, 2010 at 4:34 am #

Fascinating – if I look at her lower foot, she is swinging her other leg from side to side, and never faces forward! Of course that doesn't work when I look at all of her again, but I can begin to control the switch! Not easily, but possible!
Thanks for that, Laura and Silva people!

  43. Dr. Rozieta / Rose September 28, 2010 at 4:45 am #

When I first saw it, it was spinning clockwise. Then I intend it to see counter clockwise and it does after a few second and close my eyes for a second. Then I revert back. Found that I can see both on what I intend to see. Naturally, it will be clockwise. Love & Care, Rozieta

  44. olga September 28, 2010 at 4:51 am #

I see her definately clockwise….but with some effort it is possible to see the legs going counterclockwise
    very amusing….

  46. Lani September 28, 2010 at 5:03 am #

    What does it mean?

  48. Voon September 28, 2010 at 5:16 am #

  49. vze September 28, 2010 at 5:35 am #

first she was spinning counter clockwise then suddenly she shifted clockwise . and also , what if you find yourself somewhat aroused by the spinning woman, which hemisphere is that ?

  50. Apurv September 28, 2010 at 5:36 am #

    Cudnt make it…..

it's very clear she's spinning clockwise, no way to see it the other way, so, what doea that mean?

  54. Yana September 28, 2010 at 6:03 am #

As I watched her she moved for a while in one direction and then in the other. I'm very curious what this says about my brain?!

  55. Theresa September 28, 2010 at 6:06 am #

I could not actually see her spin at all. She would start to go one way then the other without going all the around either way. too weird.

  56. chiquita hill September 28, 2010 at 6:22 am #

I saw her spinning both ways.

  57. Viddy September 28, 2010 at 6:31 am #

Absolutely right! Agree with you. It is controlled by the movement of the page up or down.

  58. susanna September 28, 2010 at 6:37 am #

That was so cool, at first I was only able to see her spinning clockwise. "right brain" Then after a little effort to see it spin the other way. i could see her spin both ways at will grate,

  59. Roni September 28, 2010 at 6:51 am #

Very cool, indeed. When I first viewed her, I was standing in front of my desk and she was spinning clockwise. Then it occurred to me that I should sit down & view her from the 'normal' perspective — and suddenly, I could see her spin counterclockwise as well. :)

    clock wise

  61. Kis September 28, 2010 at 7:16 am #

Nice try!!! first I saw her dancing counter clock wise and a minut after i saw so clear her swinging clockwise…..mild and easy….cool perception..:)) creative minds go first….!

  62. Kizito September 28, 2010 at 7:35 am #

Before reading the first part about left brainers, I saw her spinning to the left. Then soon after reading about it, I checked again and she was spinning clockwise. After reading the full description I was able to switch her back and forth, including making half turns in either way!

  63. charles September 28, 2010 at 7:37 am #

    she wasn't spinning at all.
though from her imagery her hips were tilting inwards to the right (viewer) showing the possibility that she might be making a counter clockwise movement.as at this time her back was faced permanently to the screen.
    whats the reply.

  64. Patsy solsnki September 28, 2010 at 7:42 am #

It was clockwise for ages. Then I focussed on her hips and they changed and switched rapidly, then she stayed counterclockwise. Then she went half way left and half way right. Interesting :)

  65. Nisha September 28, 2010 at 7:43 am #

according to me the spinning girl has been programmed to change her spin from clockwise to counterclockwise after few rounds.so how to assertain whether i am a left brain or a right brain person? its something which is obvious:)

  66. SDa September 28, 2010 at 7:50 am #

what the hell, when you watch longer, you'll notice it's changing direction, isn't it?

  67. rags September 28, 2010 at 7:59 am #

switch hitter, was able with some training to switch back and forth without doing a full round. great test.

  68. Kazi Tanvir September 28, 2010 at 8:06 am #

When I enter into the level I can see her moving counter clockwise and when I look at her at at Beta level I can see her moving clockwise. Thanks Laura for sending it as it gives me the prove that I can reach Alpha level and can use both side of my brain!

  69. bertil September 28, 2010 at 8:11 am #

Interesting! I first did see her spinning right but then realized I could make her spin int the direction I wanted instantly when I said left or right to myself!

  70. Dinesh September 28, 2010 at 8:18 am #

The girl spins clockwise/counterclockwise the way I desire. Very nice idea to test and tease your brain.

  71. Richard X September 28, 2010 at 8:22 am #

Now I'm confused! When she stands on her left foot, she's spinning clockwise and when she switched to her right foot she's spinning anti clockwise. So, which side-brained am I?

  72. Farshad September 28, 2010 at 8:56 am #

I can only see her spin clockwise!! I tried so hard to see her spin the other way!! It's frustrating, what does it mean if I can switch??

  86. shirin September 28, 2010 at 11:58 am #

both of them , every time i take a new look to the girl , she spins clockwise or counterclockwise . it is very interesting test.

  87. tinalroman September 28, 2010 at 12:06 pm #

Interesting!! When I first did this a few months ago, I could only see the going counter-clockwise, and had to defocus to see her go clockwise. Now after 4 months of summer of Silva, I see her going clockwise, and am having a hard time seeing her go counter-clockwise.

  88. Stephen September 28, 2010 at 12:27 pm #

I only saw her spinning clockwise. I guess that this makes sense. I had surgery to remove scar tissue from my left frontal lobe about 4 years ago. Every since then I have been trying and succeding in reprogramming my brain to think as a "whole" instead of one lobe or the other. Fascinating.

  89. Swamy September 28, 2010 at 1:10 pm #

the image rotates both sides, if carefully seen it swings both sides so i don't understand how can this be a test.

    Laura, can u pls explain?

  90. Mona September 28, 2010 at 1:34 pm #

It spins differently as it wishes. I can't control it but I can see it spinning a different direction at different times.

  91. NancyD September 28, 2010 at 1:44 pm #

I watched this closely and believed at first I was a right brainer, then a left brainer then a switcher. Truth is if you watch it closely the figure changes direction every couple of minutes…….it's just a visual trick to get you to think you are a switcher and have great powers!!!

  92. Kaydon September 28, 2010 at 2:00 pm #

After some practice I managed to get her to spin clockwise. It was a matter of relaxing my brain, it didn't feel like Alpha, it was much different. Then I couldn't get her to spin counterclockwise again no matter how hard I tried. I had to look away and do some other work for a few minutes and then come back before she started spinning counterclockwise again. It was relatively easy to get her to spin clockwise again tho. But I couldn't revert her back to counterclockwise again. I'm not a switch hitter. After listening to some binaural beats for an hour or so all she does is spin clockwise :)

  93. Anastasia September 28, 2010 at 2:05 pm #

I'm defenitely right-brained. I'm not surprised at all, but hopefully will train myself to be a switch hitter! :)

  94. Kelbessa Degaga September 28, 2010 at 2:08 pm #

she is moving to the left for moment and again changing to right.

  95. STEVE September 28, 2010 at 2:20 pm #

I saw her spinning clockwise, which would make me a right brain person. However, Im a professional aircraft mechanic by trade, —on a daily basis I have to look at a bolt or nut from strange angles to determine which way is clockwise or counter clockwise so you know how to tighten or loosen it. (this may have had an influence on how my test turned out!) ( I automatically looked at her from a birds eye view, as if she was a bolt, and her head was the top of the bolt) Very interesting! most of the time I act like a right brain person, but on occasion can be rather left brain. So………………how do you switch from one to another?

  96. Veekay Prasad September 28, 2010 at 2:39 pm #

I could see her first clock wise, then anti and back again. Am I a switch hitter?? Is it because we are thinking that she changes side, we get the presumption. But the hands also change with the rotation. I can say only WOW.

  97. Autumn September 28, 2010 at 2:50 pm #

BTW you can click on her…drag her a bit and make her change.. I knew something was up when I moved the page and she was spinning the other way…I am undoubtedly right brained (if you knew me you would be nodding right now. I am a right brainer but can tap into evaluative logic easily. I evaluated the movement and it just wasn't right….play around with it a bit and you'll see.

  98. Elaine September 28, 2010 at 3:00 pm #

I think that is a cool test. I don't agree with the post above, that moving the mouse changes the position. I kept the page and the mouse still and I could change the girls position. There is hope for my yet. I thought I was just right brained.

Some way I have seen this test before, I am a switch hitter, since we are coming into a right side era where creative people will be needed I think it is great to know that you can swith, something else that we adapt our selves to ,we are truly amazing, liked the test and the comments. Thank you for sharing this.Bravo to Laura!

    it's obviously turn left

I saw it spin first to de right, then to the left! I am swith hitter, but I am sure I need to be able to control this, cause it happened sudently, a few seconds I see the figure spinning on way and few secons latter to the opposite way!!

    Hi

I saw the girl spinning clockwise over the time I always thought becouse I'm right handed I will use my left brain more but it came to me as a surprise which I did not expect a pleasant one what I thought the girl is not spinning but the aftereffect of the area around the girl makes us think that the girl is spinning , well happy spinning ..

  103. Joy September 28, 2010 at 4:47 pm #

Why was she spinning in both directions? No answer to someone who see’s both.

  104. raced September 28, 2010 at 4:50 pm #

its moving to the left i.e counterclockwise…. the image seems to have multiple superaddedimages and she seems to be jumping and turning towards left. i cant see her change the directions and i dont understand how can this be a test? and if it is a test that would mean i am only an analytical person….. whereas truth is that i dream a lot. though i am good at analysing things when i want to!

the girl that is see is only spinning counterclockwise. if you look the girl from below it looks like she is turning clockwise. I guess that it depends on your perspective.

  107. Jimmy September 28, 2010 at 5:32 pm #

When I first viewed the spinning girl she was spinning right and after a bit she started turning left. I thought for sure she was programed to do that but after a while I found that I could view her spinning left or right on command, what a trick!

  108. Dharma September 28, 2010 at 5:44 pm #

    * She spins both ways. If you watch her foot carefully (the one that makes contact with the ground) for a few minutes, you will notice that there is a split-second pause and she switches directions. This is not an accurate method to establish whether you are dominated by your left side of the brain or the right side! I'm very surprised that this website chose to use this! From what I see, reading the comments, people are so open to suggestion that they are blinded to reality.
This is rather a test of attention to detail; ability to observe and focus upon an unexpecting audience (us, the viewers). Lacking presence of mind, we become easily open to suggestion. Most of the times we see what we want to see.
The fact that the silhouette alternates spinning clockwise and anti-clockwise at uneven intervals of time does not define us ("right brained" "left brained" or "switch hitters" ,which is a very limiting approach to life…)
This article and all the comments simply prove that we all have blind spots.

the image for me seems to oscillate from right to left and then back again if i think about it it begins to spinn full circles adding shading and form then it spins the opposite direction and i think of its wieght balance mass porportion and is impossibility of this motion it then reverses rotation and becomes stable and more asthetic.

I'm amused and a bit saddened by those who believe they can "control" with their mind the way the silhouette spins! Oh, the ego! It's taking over our common sense! :-) There IS humor in tragedy! :-)
And then they ask "the higher powers": "What does it mean?" if they notice that she spins both ways.
IT MEANS THAT SHE SPINS BOTH WAYS AND YOU MADE AN ACCURATE OBSERVATION! LOL

Do you people notice which arm and leg is up depending on which way she rotates? I think it's a trick. Her movement has nothing to do with left/right brain and is computer programmed.

This is good I saw her moving both directions when I wish. Ha ha am I special???

  115. May September 28, 2010 at 6:11 pm #

I'm a Switch Hitter. However, I'm not a natural one. This is because I actually found the trick to get it spin in both direction. I've done this test before long time ago and the only difference is that the girl was spinning in a full circle. Well, let me tell you Laura how disappointed I am at that time with the test because all i could see was, the girl is spinning counterclockwise, which means that i was a left-brain operator. I really wanted to be a right-brain operator or at least I could see her spinning in clockwise direction once. So I kept staring at it and suddenly it changed direction. I was shocked because I thought that was impossible. Curious to know how my brain could switched, I kept staring at it until I found the explanation & finally able to change the spin at any direction I desire. It's almost embarrassing because it's so easy. All I did was to focus on the top part of the gray background. If I stare long enough at the right side, the girl will spin counterclockwise (left brain), and when I focus on the left side, the girl spin clockwise (right brain). After so many practice with this method then I'm now able to see both clockwise/ counterclockwise without having to focus left or right. There you go, that's how I did it. This is a very good exercise to train & control your brain what to focus at. Find the spinning girl moving in a full circle version in the website, try this method and I'm pretty sure anyone can be a switch hitter just like me ;)

  116. susanna September 28, 2010 at 6:21 pm #

If you watch this long enough (1-2 minutes) you will see that when her right leg is lifted she spins clockwise.
When her left leg is lifted she is turning counterclockwise.
Not sure what the point is.

  122. Dr S.P.Bindra September 28, 2010 at 7:26 pm #

Girl moves mostly clockwise. She also at times moves anticlockwise. If required she does move both clock and anticlockwise. This means blend of both right and left spinning. This clerly shows for outstanding performance one needs to change right, left and both.

I can scroll the page up and down with no change – I also left the animation working in peripheral vision while I was working and found no regular change in the animation. Changing focus, instructing myself to think analytically, changes in my work requirements through the day made a change to the direction but not physical effects of the page or the program. Possibly an open mind about where you are at with what you are doing is more to the point. Yesterday, looking at the animation when I first sat down was clockwise. After I had been reading for references for a paper the spin was counterclockwise. Relaxing and letting the mind flow led to change to clockwise again.

  126. Lorain September 28, 2010 at 9:44 pm #

  134. Marcos September 29, 2010 at 1:40 am #

My first impression was clockwise. This is a frontal-side view we see each other every day. I guess for some it can be confusing which way direction she is spinning. If she were to stretch out her arms (Horizontal) and straighten out body (Vertically) and you observe her from a Top View at her scalp, she would be spinning clockwise. Now, if you were to observe her from a Bottom View at her soles of her feet she would spin counter clockwise.

It’s a computer program, the girl is pre-set to turn to the right then to the left, whichever you stumble upon first… If you wait long enough ,you’ll get bored then embarrassed because she does change directions & it’s pretty obvious,& it’s not about your left or right side of the brain-it’s completely irrelevant on this matter, don’t get brainwashed. Good comment from Elise

  142. Judy September 29, 2010 at 5:33 am #

I have to agree with the others. The girl spins both ways, turning to the right then pausing and turning to the left. You have to watch her for a lot longer than 10 seconds so one could be fooled into thinking this is an accurate assessment of right or left brain function, rather than the trick it is.

  143. barry September 29, 2010 at 5:42 am #

I only wish she was in color!! lol It really does not matter which way she is turning on the screen. Only in the mind is where it is manefested. Does the left mean right or does the right mean left. This is where you have to decide. Use your subconcious mind to see the girl and not the brain. The Universe will let you brain know. Was there a girl on the screen?

Was there a girl as you were told? What if the left and right are the same. Can she spin in two directions at once? Can the two halves of the brain be as one? Can the subconcious and the brain be as one? Where does the concious come in? What do you want to believe? What do you want to see. Manifest it. Use you Vibrational Fraquency.

    Go to Level…

  144. Guinevere Hempstead September 29, 2010 at 10:32 am #

Not sure what other people are seeing but I see a girl standing on her left leg with her right leg in the air & her right arm elevated. She is always spinning in a clockwise circle for me.

I saved the gif image to my desktop & noticed the image in in a loop of once cycle around, so it is impossible for the image to switch after so many cycles. It is your brains people that are making you think it is spinning one way or the other or switching, not the cycling image itself.

Also, the leg the girl is standing on never changes nor do the arms. If people are seeing things differently than that, then either reality is alot more bizarre than we realize or people really do see what they want to see!!!

    Also, I guess I’m rather right-brained-in-the-head, but I knew that already! ;-)

Clockwise first, then I thought she changed directions and she did… I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me .. Then I watched it for about 20 seconds, then she switched up .. I decided to record a video of it on my phone … I watched through the screen on my phone, while recording. She did not switch at all. But when I played it back, she kept switching … back and forth, like a swinging pendulum .. no full turns, partial semi-circles. So, logically, I couldn't not pin point her exact "flipping" time … I could just watch my video taken, and do some self studies, and write down my own personal accounts and see the number of times she changes … seeing as how my recorded video cannot change at all … hmmm VERY INTERESTING … I'm sure I'd receive various results. I really enjoyed it. We need more of those to sharpen our eye for detail … cognitive coordination!

It's funny gail, Once she switches direction, it's hard to conceive how I could've seen her going clockwise just seconds before. It's not just a left or right brain question, but it's a good example of what to keep in mind when relating with people. This figure spins in either direction as a 3d optical illusion, depending on the person witnessing her. But just because one of us sees her one way and another the other does not make one right or wrong… keep staring at her and allow your eyes to go out of focus, when she suddenly switches, you'll be amazed you didn't see her that way to begin with!

It's a visual trick – turn your monitor sideways if you can't see counter or clockwise; she is actually just moving left and right, not completely around. I could only see clockwise, otherwise. Had to use my creativity.

  153. Paula September 29, 2010 at 8:37 pm #

When you turn your monitor sideways, I noticed it also changes direction (goes right for a few turns) and then switches to left.

  154. luke September 29, 2010 at 10:14 pm #

Wow fascinating. When I saw it out of the corner of my eye while reading the description im certain it was turning counter clockwise. Then when I looked at it directly it was clockwise. It felt impossible that it could spin counter clockwise. But then I mentally forced it to spin counter, it did. It is interesting it ‘felt’ impossible that it could spin counter clockwise because that is how my artistic side percieves and communicates, and I made it spin in the logical direction by rationalizing that it must spin that way because others said it can. This is a good test because it shows how dominant you are in each hemisphere and how well you can switch between the two. (there is also the ‘framing objects with your hands and closing one eye’ test)

i found it very easy to follow both rotations and i suppose the faqct i am a scientist mathematician who paints and writes music confirms i am a switch hitter through and through, it got interesting when i tried to change direction of the spin before a complete rotation as if she was making half turns, much more difficult, but still possible

  156. jumana September 29, 2010 at 10:34 pm #

I could easly control her spinning o both sides before even commpleting half a round ,it was amazing real fun

  157. jiggs bordane September 30, 2010 at 12:43 am #

Fantastic! Now I controlled the image, she moves on both ways, thank you very much.

  158. Eddie September 30, 2010 at 12:53 am #

If you save the animated gif and open it in a different program without the loop you will see the images that make up the GIF only go in one direction for one rotation – what changes is your perception of the motion depending on your focus. Is a fan or a car wheel that appears to be travelling backwards when the object is moving forwards also a trick? or simply what your brain and eyes are able to perceive?

  159. sam September 30, 2010 at 1:24 am #

The dancer is going clockwise and then changing to anti-clockwise. One has to look precisely, else, this is an illusion.

So, I can consider myself both right and left brain operator. THANKS FOR TEACHING ME FOT THIS DISCOVERY!

The firs time i saw the girl she was turning clockwise so i knew im a right brainer.but reading others comments i tried to look at the girl again.Yes she was turning first clockwise, then i think, you turn counterclockwise and it did!!!i tried it many times maybe this is just a trick, but it just happened like before. It’s amazing,i’ll practice to be a switch hitter!thanx

  162. Eddie September 30, 2010 at 7:07 am #

    Hi Guinevere
I also saved the gif image and separated out one cycle – the image changes make the image move in one direction as you say.

It is definitely the perception of the eye and the brain that govern the spin but since in reality our eyes see everything upside down initially and then the brain makes the switch to right way up for our perception this is not really strange at all.

As someone else has said – this is a 3D optical illusion. I guess it is a little like the effect we have when vehicles are travelling at speed and the wheels appear to turn in reverse motion to the car – similar can happen with fan blades.

  163. Rhythm September 30, 2010 at 12:49 pm #

I was wondering how is perception of spinning clockwise associated with right brain functioning, and spinning counter-clockwise associated with left brain functioning? There is some controversy whether this is actually a test that can determine this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Spinning_Dancer. I am curious to understand what basis is being used to define these associations.

  164. Jennifer England September 30, 2010 at 1:24 pm #

  165. Moxa September 30, 2010 at 8:12 pm #

I saw it turn both ways. Anti clockwise first, then Clockwise, then change again. And it continue change back and forth, Is this programed to turn differently at different time. If it is programed, it function randomly.

When I first looked at the picture she was turning left. After reading the descriptions I went back and she was turning right.
As of late I have been finding myself in a bit of turmoil. I have always known that I am naturally a more right brained person who has adapted myself into living in a primarily left brained world. Over the years I became a left brained person in the work world. I know I am my happiest when I use my creativity, even in my left brained profession — I am a materials planner. Away from work, my life is fairly unstructured and unplanned.

  167. Suli October 1, 2010 at 10:35 am #

Based on my previous left/right hemisphere test from other sources, it gave result that I am a left brained. When I took this Laura Silva test — on my first attempt I could easily see her spinning both ways…first I saw her spinning counterclockwise and after awhile she was spinning clockwise and vice versa every now and then. However, on my second and third attempts on the next days, no matter how hard I tried from different angles, I could only she her spinning clockwise. Does this mean that I am now more a right brained operator than a left brained as I am used to be?!

I've recently noticed that sometimes even though I do NOT want it to switch, it does it by itself. Howewer, most of the time, I do manage to get the timing right, exactly when I want it to switch.
I still occassionally get the half-turn, semi-circles though. Any comments, anyone?

  171. Mary October 2, 2010 at 9:40 pm #

Interesting. I saw her spinning counter-clockwise but I'm left handed. Shouldn't I be seeing her going clockwise? Many things I do I can do with both hands or only right handed. Those career test they give you I always come out evenly split between logical and intuitive. Interesting paradox.

It's a trick. If you look long enough without trying to switch the direction, you'll actually see her switch direction for a few seconds.

  182. Elizabeth October 7, 2010 at 2:33 am #

As soon as I was told I could see her spin both ways I could decide which direction she'd spin.
Counterclockwise first, then counter, then on command.
    We are so powerful.
Using it wisely is the task.

  183. Satnam Singh October 11, 2010 at 8:45 am #

I just see it as clockwise all the time. I couldnt see it counter clockwise. Neither I could switch hit it.

  184. Yvonne October 11, 2010 at 7:13 pm #

At first I saw her spinning anti clockwise but after reading your comments I thought I too should be able to change from my left brain to the right and I did! It was kind of cool when she more or less stayed in the middle, turning from left to right, right to left, like she could'nt make her mind up about which way to turn!

  185. sido October 13, 2010 at 1:55 pm #

absolutely switch hitting as you call it. But am a musician, which uses both sides constantly…

  186. mercedes October 14, 2010 at 1:14 pm #

I saw her spin both ways.

    I guess I am a switch hitter

hi jill, ron turner here. i have a few questions for you.first i did the technique and felt really good. but i dont have my own computer,so my question is do you have cd version of your products?also i took the test about the spinning girl but she doesnt spin for me

  188. Louis October 25, 2010 at 2:28 pm #

Darn. It appears I am hopelessly left brained. Wah! I am like the Scarecrow of Oz: "If I only had a (left) brain…" I want to better develop my left side using the Silva Method as a tool.

  189. Don Allem October 29, 2010 at 11:02 pm #

I looked for bothways and it was relatively easy to do so.

  190. sam November 17, 2010 at 5:39 pm #

Yes I know the anwser it is either my head is spinning or it is an illusion based where you place the cursor if the cusor near the girls legs down the the girl will spin anti clockwise if the cursor near the top the girl will spin clockwise.
    It made my head spin

I think I use up and down cursor instead of left and right brain.

  191. cathy-ann November 22, 2010 at 7:54 pm #

I was able to control her and spin her both ways

  192. Kim November 24, 2010 at 12:02 am #

She is standing still for me, what does this mean???

  193. Kedrick November 26, 2010 at 9:54 am #

dominantly left but spins right too

  194. garry November 30, 2010 at 2:13 pm #

if its a parlor trick its a good one. i still cant explain why i see it spinning one way and my wife, at the very same time, will see it spinning the opposite. she can change the direction often where i cannot.interesting how the brain works. :-)

  195. Don Allen December 1, 2010 at 9:17 pm #

I saw her c/clockwise and then adjusted to be able to swith back & forth

  196. biek December 8, 2010 at 10:02 pm #

thesame story as above could that also explain thant i never finish things that started

  197. copeycc December 18, 2010 at 1:46 pm #

She started out going right. But after remembering the 3D photos of years ago, I tried to make her go left with no problem at all. COOL PIC !!

  198. Julie December 21, 2010 at 12:10 am #

I am new here so I don't have an account yet. I am still ferreting around so to speak.
I know nothing of the Silva Method either.

Upon looking at the spinning girl the first time, she was counter clockwise. I read the description for left brainer, and thought cool. That's me lol Then I read the right brainer description and thought to myself "Hey tho, that is me too" so I went back to the picture.

  199. Julie December 21, 2010 at 12:10 am #

She was still spinning counter for like a minute straight. Then I went farther down in the blog, and read some more, and came back to the spinning girl, and looked at her feet. Still spun counter. I watched and watched, then looked at her feet for a full rotation, thinking of a way I could make her reverse, and lo and behold she started spinning clockwise. I was thinking it was cool, and that I wanted to get her back to counter to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. She switched back to counter as fast as I could blink. Then I changed her again. This is an interesting excercise.

The gif image once taken apart shows her movement going in one direction through her loop. No flim flam.
There is more to the grey matter than we think, I think ;)

That was really neat! I used to be primarily left-brained. I studied science for years. One day I got tired of it all and got a job as an artist designing candle art and that's when I "switched". So when I looked at the spinning girl, I left my mind open, and she went both ways for me, back and forth, a few seconds in either direction. I always said I felt more balanced after I started doing art, now I know why!!!

I'm tending to think you are right. I felt I could change it a few times, but then i saw a blip in my computer screen. C'mon guys, what goes?? :-)

  202. Ivet January 25, 2011 at 5:07 pm #

I have always known I have an ambidextrous brain :)
It can be both a blessing and a curse. One ca become overwhelmed sometimes, especially when trying to make important decisions. But most of the time I do enjoy being able to switch from logical for problem solving, to intuitive to explore my creativity.

  203. Wendy January 26, 2011 at 9:17 pm #

Even after multiple attempts, I could only see her spinning clockwise.

  204. Ruth Ann Keys March 8, 2011 at 12:01 pm #

Really neat. I'm a switch hitter!! Predominantly right-brained with the ability to left-brain…Thanks!!!

  205. UncAnnie1 March 9, 2011 at 2:07 pm #

If you watch her spinning for a few minutes, you can see that she changes directions more than once. At least I can. I've always been considered a 'switch hitter' or in some instances a "fence sitter" because I can see more than one possibility or response to most situations.

Fun to watch, and interesting to see what your brain perceives as you change your focus of attention.

I was born left-handed, but was punished as a child if a teacher saw me writing left-handed, so from a very early age I learned to switch to my right side….as an adult I train horses and it is such a vaule to be able to change riding the horse right/left without thinking about it, my right handed students often have a difficult time riding a patern right to left. I recently took up the game of golf with my husband and I could not decide to golf right-handed or left-handed, so I connected with an instructor that had camras set up to film the swing and then he put them on the comuter side-by-side and he said I was the same both directions….he said the golf courses are designed for "right" handed golfers and advised I buy "right" handed clubs (: Cheers….great exercise.

  207. BeWell2011 March 10, 2011 at 5:55 am #

Me, too. At first I could only see her moving clockwise. Then just now I saw her go the other way and then back to clockwise. Fun exercise.

  208. baydaa March 25, 2011 at 12:31 pm #

When I looked at her I saw both sids spinning.

  209. Bin. March 27, 2011 at 11:23 am #

    Hi, Julfire,
I just see the girl spin clockwise , and try hard to see it spin counter clockwise but fail,. Can you tell me the trick you have ? Thanks.

  210. Jason April 12, 2011 at 10:32 pm #

I can make her sweep back and forth turn right and the left very easily. Maybe the mouse does effect the spin but take your pointer off the screen and try it. It works!

It looks like you’ve designed quite a few definitely enjoyable ideas. Not many ppl would certainly think on this the method that you simply just does. We’re highly amazed that there’s a whole lot with this topic that have been found so you achieved it thus well, with so drastically school. Top-notch a person, individual! Quite fantastic factors in this case.
