Change can be scary, change can be hard, and it can be uncomfortable. But… it can also be fun, exciting, energizing and inspiring.
We think that change is instantaneous and painful, and we are convinced that “life will be different” meaning ‘not in a good way.’ Yes, life will be different, but why necessarily bad? We think that change is bad, but the reality is, everything is constantly changing whether we like it or not. Our bodies change. Our outlook changes. Improvement is change. Stagnation is change too. It’s not possible to have things exactly as they are, forever!
Every time you pick something up, manipulate it, think about it, even observe it – you change it. This has been proven by quantum physics. Energy is in motion. The energy of your thoughts creates changes in the energy of something else – just as your thoughts are influenced by the actions of other people or events that you experience. So simply by being alive and thinking, you are creating and experiencing change ALL THE TIME.
Everything is ALWAYS changing.
Really the best way to get over fear of change is to accept that in this energetic universe, the physical manifestations of energy are always changing because energy is always in motion. Motion doesn’t have a value attached to it, as in “good” or “bad” so why should change be bad?
After all, if a newborn baby didn’t change, she would never learn to walk. She would never learn to say, “I love you, Mommy”.
The following inspirational quotes on change will help you improve (change) the way you think so you can take on personal challenges.
We all long for a life of “things will be better when…” – it’s human nature to believe in a utopia without petty annoyances and major upheavals. But unless we resist change, we do not see these interruptions as interruptions. It’s only RESISTING the fact that everything is constantly changing that creates fear and upset!
“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” – Viktor Frankl. It’s easier to change a situation than change ourselves because our beliefs and self-sabotaging limitations are buried deep and may be hard to uncover. But unless you change yourself, then changing jobs, homes, cities and even relationships will NOT create the changes you wish to experience. It will just be the same problems, different place/time/person/etc.
“Sometimes it’s the smallest decisions that can change your life forever.” – Kerri Russell. Actually, every single tiny decision we make creates change (some noticeable, some not). Everything has a ripple effect. Every decision counts and every decision creates change.
“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi. We love to sit and talk about change in terms of “they should”. It’s nice when others take charge and change things for the better, sure. But who are “they”? And if something is important to you, why not “YOU should”? Why give away your personal power to DO something meaningful for yourself and for others, by delegating it to some nebulous “they”?
“If you would attain to what you are not yet, you must always be displeased by what you are. For where you are pleased with yourself there you have remained. Keep adding, keep walking, keep advancing.” – Saint Augustine. Being displeased with yourself means committing to improving yourself. Never stop learning. Never stop growing.
“Know what’s weird? Day by day, nothing seems to change, but pretty soon… everything’s different.” – Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes. Always remember that everything is in constant flux. Nothing can ever stay the same. Even if we don’t perceive changes, they are occurring… until one day we wake up and see them.
“Nothing endures but change.” – Heraclitus. Change is the only constant!
Of course the ageless serenity prayer is the ultimate change quote: “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the ones I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” And the wonderful offshoot of this: “God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it’s me.”
“Change yourself, change your fortunes.” – Portugese proverb. If you want to direct the course of change of the events in your life, you have to take control and use your thoughts to create those changes.
“We all have big changes in our lives that are more or less second chances.” – Harrison Ford. Your outlook determines whether you see life’s major upheavals as opportunities or whether you make the choice to allow them to destroy you. All it takes is a shift in attitude… “What can I take away from this? What have I learned? How has it enriched my life?
“Time, which changes people, does not alter the image we have retained of them.” – Marcel Proust. Holding on to the past is a favorite human pastime. We are often more in love with the fantasy of someone than with the person; and when we think about someone, we think about them in terms of a memory – the ‘image we have retained’. To release the past, we must see people as they are now, since all of us, for better or worse, are continually changing.
Hopefully you can see that change is not something that should be equated with bad things happening to you or life becoming uncomfortable or painful. You can change the way you think; the way you react; the way you speak; the way you see the world. All of these positive changes will create a ripple effect of external change.
The changes you make in your thinking don’t have to be monumental! Use the Silva Method visualization exercises to use your imagination to visualize positive changes in your life. See a huge positive difference in your life by changing the way you talk to yourself and about yourself.
