iStock_000005349409XSmallWe all know that gratitude is the secret to a happy, abundant life. Often times though, there are certain things that people forget to be grateful for. It is so easy to focus on what you lack, instead of grateful for what you have.  Even the little things.

This holds true for money and wealth as well.

It’s not often we relate gratitude to wealth and money. In fact money seems to conjure up a very bad stigma. Especially if you consider the current economic conditions.

So money’s reputation has continually become worse and worse and we wonder why we spend so much time complaining about money. We continually lump it into the category of “evil,” which in some cases it is. Money corrupts, breaks up marriages, ruins lives, and forces people to do things they don’t want to do. But as with anything else in life, money is a tool for good or for bad. Just like a hammer can help you build a home or it can be used to tear down a house.

But the truth is that money can open up a world of possibilities for you. And if you allow it to be a positive force you in your life, you will allow opportunity, hope, and benevolence to flow to and from you.

If you are still having trouble accepting this, then let me show you 5 ways that gratitude can help you make money, change your wealth mindset, and allow you to grow.

1. Be grateful for the money you save because it will open up a world of opportunity for you

This couldn’t be truer. By saving money, think of all the new activities you could do. Take that trip you’ve always wanted to, splurge on a new mountain bike, or even indulge yourself every now and then.

By saving you are also bringing security into your life and certainty gives you peace of mind and options when times are tough.

2. Be grateful for the money you earn because it shows you are contributing to society

Having someone just give you money means nothing. It’s no surprise that trust-fund kids sometimes end up the most depressed and confused. By earning money you are expressing your value to society and making a conscious contribution to the world.

Money is your reward and you should never feel bad for receiving it. Be grateful because no matter how little or how much you make, you are providing benefit to the world.

3. Be grateful for the money you give because you are helping to better humanity

An important advantage of money is the ability to spread joy, security, and hope. If you are broke, you will have a much harder time helping the causes in which you wish to support.     I’m not saying that all it takes is throwing some money at a charity but it certainly doesn’t hurt. By combining your time and money, you will be able to do so much more for this world.

4. Be grateful for money because it will break down your resistance to wealth and allow abundance to flow to you

By becoming grateful for money you break down your resistance to wealth and abundance. Dissolve any guilt you have about receiving money and you will find that you are more open to prosperity. This will permeate your words and thoughts and thus your corresponding actions will be in line with a path of abundance.

5. Be grateful for the money you have because it allows you to follow your passion and live your life’s purpose

By having money you no longer have to focus on getting more and more money. Debt will not be an issue and you will be afforded more time to think about your passion, pursue new goals and activities, explore the world, enjoy the company of your friends and family, and ultimately discover and live your life’s purpose.

These 5 points are by no means an exhaustive list and the link between gratitude and success is a strong one. Keep in mind that without gratitude you will never know success and wealth.

Laura, thank you for pointing those out. It's interesting how many different angles there are when it comes to gratitude towards money. It's important to be aware of them because it's so easy to fall into a trap of thinking of lack rather than gratitude.
